Richemont, the luxury group behind Cartier and Chloé, has offered €2.8 billion to buy the remainder of the 75% of shares in Yoox Net-A-Porter that it does not already own. Richemont Chairman Johann Rupert said in a statement: “We are very pleased with the results achieved by Yoox Net-A-Porter Group’s management team, led by Federico Marchetti, and we intend to support them going forward to execute their strategy and further accelerate the growth of the business”.

A motorcycle bomb exploded at a market in Thailand’s southern Yala province in the early hours of Monday morning, killing three people and injuring 22. The attack is the first of its kind for months in the region, where Malay Muslims have been fighting for autonomy. Police said the motorcycle was placed near a stall selling pork – which is strictly forbidden under Islamic law - however it is still unclear whether the placement of the bike was a deliberate attempt to target Thai Buddhists.

Coast guard vessels have surveyed three developing oil slicks from the sunken Iranian ship Sanchi, which was carrying one million barrels of oil. The surface area of the oil slicks has grown from 101 sq km to 332 sq km (128 square miles) over four days. The Sanchi was carrying condensate oil, which is harder to separate and remove from the water and is highly toxic to marine life.

The Philippines' most active volcano, Mount Mayon, erupted on Sunday 21 leading authorities to rise the alert level from three to the second highest level of four. The danger zone has also been expanded from 6km to 8km, forcing over 400,00 residents to evacuate. Since the explosion, a cloud of ash has spread several miles across the volcano’s home of Legazpi. Mayon last erupted in 2014.

As a response, many federal government offices shut down, meaning many workers have been furloughed and placed on unpaid leave.
